Kamala Harris Vogue ‘Informal’ Cover Gets Tongues Wagging

The news of Kamala Harris appearing on the February cover of American Vogue instantly calls for a celebration. But after the cover images made rounds on the internet on Sunday, critics quickly called the magazines cover choice “washed out” and even “disrespectful”.

The image in question features the Vice President-elect clad in a black blazer, black jeans and black converse sneakers.

According to a source, Harris’ team felt blindsided by the choice of image for the print edition. They had believed it would rather feature Harris in a powder blue suit and gold background. The preferred image will instead be featured on the digital issue.

A spokesperson for Vogue revealed that the magazine “loved the images Tyler Mitchell shot and felt the more informal image captured Vice President-elect Harris’s authentic, approachable nature — which we feel is one of the hallmarks of the Biden/Harris administration.

“To respond to the seriousness of this moment in history, and the role she has to play leading our country forward, we’re celebrating both images of her as covers digitally.”
