Jerusalema: The South African Hit That Isn’t Backing Down

When South African producer Kgaogelo Moagi, better known as Master KG released Jerusalema in late 2019, it became an instant hit.

Featuring rising singer Nomcebo, it not only became the country’s summer anthem but quickly found its way all over the world. The song earned a dance challenge with many posting videos on social media.

Just when the hype was seemingly dying down, a new remix surfaced by Nigeria’s Burna Boy. The singer’s golden voice has been responsible for many hits including On The Low and Ye. He was also among the artists featured in Beyonce’s Black Is King soundtrack for The Lion King.

It’s safe to say everything Burna Boy touches turns to gold, and as expected, he further heightened Jerusalema to global status. The song reached number one on the Billboard world digital charts and now sits on more than 100 million streams on Spotify and nearly 200 million Youtube views. It’s now the most searched song on Shazam.
